A Brief WCA History

In the 1950s, members of the Washington D.C. Christian Reformed Church, Knox Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and Wallace Presbyterian Church laid plans for a school in the Reformed, Christian tradition, serving a racially and economically diverse community.

Washington Christian School opened its doors in 1960, in fulfillment of the prayers and efforts of many. The school began with grades K-4 in a brick building on Arcola Avenue shaded in front by one of the oldest oak trees in the county. In 1982, the school moved to a larger facility, leased from Montgomery County. In 1996, Washington Christian School merged with Silver Spring Christian Academy to form Washington Christian Academy.

In the summer of 2005, Washington Christian Academy moved from its home of 20-plus years to interim campuses in Silver Spring. The Lower School, grades K-5, is housed at Colesville Baptist Church, while the Middle and Upper Schools will be housed at the Global Mission Church.

In the summer of 2008, Washington Christian Academy will begin a new and exciting chapter as we move to a permanent home at the southern border of Olney, MD on Batchellors Forest Road.
