In Beginning Band, students learn to read notes and rhythms and play music that is both fun and challenging. In September, the student chooses the instrument of his or her choice and with practice, goes from a beginning to an intermediate level by May. Intermediate Band students continue to hone their skills while learning works of increasing challenge and complexity. Both groups perform in concerts during the school year.
Students will learn about the basic elements of music including form, mood, melody, harmony, tempo, rhythm and patterns. This will also include the history of music from early to modern times, with attention to specific composers and music. We will relate the periods to major world events as well. Materials will include recordings of some of the greatest works of classical music as well as learning fun facts about the music, musicians and composers in order to better understand, inspire, promote and develop the potential composer or arranger inside each of the students.
