The Fourth Grade Experience

Fourth Grade is an exciting time for our students, a time of transition that retains the exuberance and delight of the primary years while increasingly calling the students to take greater responsibility for their work and behavior. Activities that merge fun and learning continue with the Fish Tale Players puppet ministry and the WCA Iditarod. In Language Arts, the students encounter more challenging literary works and apply their reading skills to other content areas such as Bible, history, and science. Writing assignments take students through the entire writing process, from brainstorming to final draft. Study skills, organization and research skills become very important as children begin to write reports and keep track of long-term assignments.

Service and Missions Projects

The students undertake service opportunities, with two or three mission projects chosen each year to benefit pastors, missionaries, and children around the world.

History Night and a Campout

They apply science and mathematics to the world around them as they move gradually from concrete facts to more abstract concepts in these disciplines. In History, they explore African and European kingdoms of the Middle Ages and present their findings at Lower School History Night and cap the year off with an overnight campout following their study of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
