What is distinctive about the Reformed tradition?

Christians in the Reformed tradition affirm that we are saved by faith alone. We believe that the Reformed understanding of Scripture most consistently gives God all the glory for our salvation by attributing to God the whole accomplishment of our salvation. This understanding grows out of the Protestant Reformation set in motion by Martin Luther. God the Father elects us and draws us to himself on the basis of the sufficient work of Christ, through the working of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. We are saved by faith alone, but that very faith is the work of God in our hearts, not our own work. God is the author of our salvation from beginning to end, and the glory is entirely his own.

What difference does this make in education?

Christians are challenged to pursue all activities with thankfulness to the Creator. We re-claim, as rightly belonging to God, everything produced by humanity because all humans bear God’s image. In education we explore all subjects seeking the true, beautiful and good. We do not hide from the world; we engage the world by examining all issues and asking how we may achieve God’s purposes. Since all of reality finds its ultimate source in God and is designed for his glory, we are called to excellence in education.

Is Washington Christian Academy a parochial school?

No, we are not controlled or largely supported by a church. We were founded by members of three churches and are governed by a society. The members of the society ascribe to the Canons of Dordt, the Westminster Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism or the Belgic Confession and are committed to providing education from a Reformed Christian worldview.
