The Importance of the Educational Experience

The education your children receive is vitally important. How they experience that education is even more important. It is the difference between just learning and coming to love learning, between being instructed by a teacher and being inspired by a teacher.

Three terms describe the overall educational experience your children will receive at Washington Christian Academy.

Three phases of education
three distinct experiences

Our three overarching values form the big picture of a WCA education. But each phase of that education provides its own nuanced and distinct experience.

It Will be Reverent

At WCA, they will learn to believe that there are things worth living for, some worth dying for. There are things worth believing in, things that merit respect: things like reverence for God and for their fellows, reverence for this world, for themselves, for life, and for all that is true and good and beautiful.

It Will be Adventurous

Here they will come to understand that learning is the adventure of a lifetime where they can converse with the best minds who have ever lived, and where they can use their imaginations to forge paths to destinations as yet unreached. They will come to see that learning is an adventure that is exciting and challenging, rigorously demanding and deeply satisfying.

It Will be Academically Serious

Academic excellence is merely a standard. Academic seriousness is more than that. It is an attitude, a value. Academic excellence is achieved and ended. Academic seriousness is an enduring way of life.

Lower School - Discovering
The Lower School is a time of discovering the world, a time of adventure where children are free to explore their curiosities and budding spiritual interests.

Middle School - Becoming
The Middle School years are years of becoming - it is during this time that children solidify their identity and their understanding of reality.

Upper School - Leading
The Upper school is about leading - leadership which has evolved out of a sense of purpose that students develop through their years at WCA.
