True love is most clearly demonstrated when given away to others. Jesus himself made this clear when He summed up the requirements of God's law by saying; “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind, …and the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22: 37-39) Love is demonstrated in our actions towards others, not in feelings and emotions. Throughout the school year the students at WCA put their love for God and others into action by visiting local organizations in need and serving up God's love in action.
One place that is special to us is our local assisted living facility just up Georgia Ave., in Olney. At Olney Assisted Living, students play and sing songs they have learned in class as their expressions of God's love to the residents. After the music is over, they willingly move around the room smiling and shaking hands with each resident in attendance. For us, these actions exceed the great job they always do playing and singing.
It gives us great joy to be able to teach this generation the importance of making great music, with the greater goal of helping them put their faith in Christ into tangible action. By loving God and others, through music, we experience what I think the author of that camp song had in mind. When you give love away, you end up having more!
